My Name is Hala: And I am Still Dreaming

[This blog was created by Luz Cañas (rhythmandbreath) on Hala's behalf in the hopes that together we can raise the money needed to get Hala from Gaza to Germany. All funds collected will be forwarded to securing Hala's spot at the University, getting her student visa, travel and living expenses. We were trying to post on GoFundMe but was flagged because of the mention of Gaza. So I, Luz am trying here. Blogger hasn't failed me thus far. ]

This was me before the genocide — full of dreams and energy.
This photo reminds me of who I still am — even after everything I’ve been through.

My name is Hala Salah. I am a student from Gaza who has spent the past two years living through war, displacement, and unimaginable loss. Like thousands of others, I lost my home, my school, and people I deeply loved — family members, friends, neighbors. What I didn’t lose, however, was my dream. Despite the destruction and instability, I continued my education under the harshest conditions. I studied during power cuts, applied to universities between evacuations, and refused to give up on the life I hoped to build. Recently, I was accepted to Constructor University in Germany. For me, this is not just a place to study — it is a chance to rebuild my future.

This opportunity means everything to me, but I cannot pursue it without financial support. My annual tuition fee is $20,000. Of which I received a scholarship for $5000E which brings it down to $5000. In addition, I will need around $12,000 per year to cover basic living expenses such as housing, food, transportation, and university-related costs. That brings my total yearly need to $27,000 — a figure that is impossible for me to manage alone, especially under current conditions in Gaza.

I’m reaching out with deep hope. Any financial contribution — big or small — will help me take this step toward safety, stability, and education. Even if you are unable to donate, sharing my story with others can make a big difference.

Education has always been my way forward. I still believe in it, and I still believe in the power of people to help each other rise. If you believe in second chances, in education, and in resilience, please consider supporting me.

Thank you for your time, your kindness, and your belief in my future.
